Q：前の試合より少し楽でしたね。
JCF：はい、勿論。今日はスタートがとてもとても良かった。全てのウィナーはライン上に乗ったし、すぐに彼のサービスをブレイクした。完璧な試合だった。ミスも悪いサーブもなかった。だから完全な試合をすることが出来たと思う。

Q：２週目に入るこの段階で、決勝、優勝に対してどのような立場にいると感じていますか？前進している？
JCF：勿論、前進しています。僕は２週目にいる。準々決勝戦にいます。ここでは初めての準々決勝です。だからとても良い気分です。足も良くなってきています。今日は痛みを感じませんでした。それはとても嬉しい。体調はとても良いです。次の試合に向けて良くなっています。僕は準々決勝戦にいる。次に当たるフェレイラ−サルグシアン戦を観ます。観れば次の試合でどんなことが起こるか分かるでしょう。もし今日あるいはここ何日かのようなプレーが出来れば、勝つチャンスはあると思います。

Q：ここは全仏オープン以外であなたがこの段階まで来た最初のグランドスラムです。異なるサーフェスというとで、特別な意味がありますか？
JCF：これがローラン・ギャロス以外での初めての準々決勝だというのは知っています。でも僕はクレーでもハードコートでも良いプレーが出来ると思います。自分だけがそれを知っていました。もっと良くならなければなりません。勿論、結果がついて来るでしょう。結果がついてくる時にいる。ハードコートである次の試合、更に全米オープンでベストを尽くすつもりです。そこで何が起こるか分かるでしょう。ここのように良いプレーが出来ると思います。

Q：全米とここは同じハードコートです。どちらが楽に勝てると思いますか？またどちらが貴方のゲームに適していると思いますか？
JCF：同じです。同じくらい。多分、少し速いか遅いかだけれど、同じです。だからサーフェスではなく自分次第です。２週前のシドニーはここより速かった。そして決勝を戦った。ここより少しだけ速くて対処出来ませんでした。それは僕にとっては良いことです。

Q：センターコートはヴォダフォンアリーナより速いと思いますか？
JCF：みんなそう言ってますか？

Q：何人かの選手がそう言ってます。
JCF：いいえ、そう感じませんでした。僕はもう１試合センターコートでプレーします。ヴォダフォンはとても気分が良いです。全ての試合でここのようにプレーします。センターコートでプレーした時、他より速くは感じませんでした。

Q：ロッドレーバーではまだプレーしてませんか？
JCF：１試合、２回戦で。とても良かった。速くは感じませんでした。

Q：試合のない日に、シード選手の試合を観ましたか？
JCF：何試合か。サルグシアン対フィリポーシスの試合、昨日ヒューイットの試合を１セットだけ観ました。何人かのスペインの選手の試合は観ました。そんなに多くではありません。試合のない日はリラックスするようにしています。

Q：ヒューイットのプレーをどのように思うかあなたの考えを聞いてもいいですか？
JCF：ヒューイットは彼自身の試合をしている。彼はミスをしない。ホームで試合しているので、モチベーションも高い。良いプレーをしています。次のエルアナウィー戦を観なければなりません。エルアナウィーはよく経験を積んだ選手です。彼はいつもエルアナウィーに勝っているけれど、４，５セットまでいっている。彼にとって楽ではないと思います。

Q：あなたは優勝候補の一人だと思いますか？
JCF：そうは思いません。そんなことは全然。僕はアガシやヒューイットに簡単に勝ったことがあります。また今日は容易に勝てました。でも僕は今、このオーストラリアには優勝候補はいないと思います。

Q：何故ですか？
JCF：何故？ナンバー１、２、３、４シードの間に違いがないからです。良いプレーをした時は、同じレベルだと思います。違いはありません。これは私の考えです。

Q：怪我は腰ですか？
JCF：外転筋です。

Q：それはどこですか？
JCF：脚のここ。でも良くなっています。今は大丈夫。

Q：治療が必要ですか？
JCF：抗炎症剤、マッサージ、超音波をやってます。それ程、重大ではありません。

Q. That was a little easier than your last match.
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yeah, of course. Today I think I start very, very strong. You know, I put all the winners on lines, you know, and I break him - his serve - very soon. I think I play a really, really solid match. Not in any moment I start to do mistakes and I start to serve bad, so I think I play a complete match.

Q. How do you feel you're situated at this stage coming into the second week with regards to making the final, winning the tournament? How do you feel you're progressing?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Of course, I'm progressing. You know, I'm in the second week. I'm in the quarterfinals. First time that I'm here in the quarterfinals. So I'm feeling so good. You know, physically I start to improve my leg. Today I didn't feel pain, so I'm really happy for that. Is more important physically I'm really well and I improving for the next match.
I'm in the quarterfinals. I'm seeing in the next match against Ferreira or Sargsian. We'll see what happens in the next match. If I play like today or the other days, I think I have also chances to win.

Q. This is the first Grand Slam, outside the French, you actually got to this stage. Does that carry any sort of special significance, given a different surface?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: I know is the first time I'm in quarterfinals out to the Roland Garros. But I think I play also good in clay court and also good in hard court. Only I knew it, that I have to play and improving. Of course, is coming the results. You see in that moment is coming the results.
I'm going to try to give my best in the next and also the US Open in the States, because also in hard court. We'll see what happens. But I know that I can play very good, like here.

Q. US and here are both hard courts. Do you think one of them might be a little bit easier to win on, that one may suit your game more?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: No, because it's like the same. It's like the same. Maybe it's a little faster or a little slower, but it's like the same. So is not depend of the surface; it depend of me. In Sydney last week, two weeks ago, was faster than here, and I play final. I don't care is a little bit faster than here. It's okay for me.

Q. Do you think the surface on the center court is faster than it is on Vodafone Arena court?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: The people is telling this?

Q. That seems to be the opinion of some players.
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: No, no, no, I don't feel. I just play one more match on center court. I feel very good in the Vodafone court. I play like all my matches there. You know, I'm going to see. When I play in the center court, I didn't feel faster that the other ones.

Q. Have you played on Rod Laver yet?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yes, one match, the second match. And I play really good, so I didn't feel faster.

Q. Have you been watching any of the other top two seeds on your days off?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Some matches. I watch Sargsian-Philippoussis, Hewitt just one set yesterday, some Spanish guys I was watching. Not so much. The day off is to be relax.

Q. Can I ask your opinion on how you think Hewitt is playing?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Hewitt is playing his line. I think he didn't do mistakes. He's very motivated because he's playing in his house. He's playing really good.
We have to see in the next round against Younes El Aynaoui. Younes El Aynaoui is a really good, experienced guy. Always he wins to El Aynaoui, but in four, fifth sets. Is not going to be easy for him, I think.

Q. Do you think there's one player that should be favored at the moment?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: I don't think so. I don't think so. I don't think so. I know that Agassi and Hewitt won very easy. Also me, I won very easy today. But I think there is no favorite here in Australia right now.

Q. Why is that?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Why? Because the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, there is no difference between us. I think I will play at the same level when we play good. There is no more the difference. It's my opinion.

Q. The injury, is it in the hip?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: The abductor was the injury.

Q. Where is that?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: In the leg here. But is improving, is okay now.

Q. Do you need treatment?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: I take antiinflammatories, massage, ultrasound. Is not so important.

Q：難しい試合でしたか？
JCF：スコアを見れば分かります。とても難しい試合だった。サントロはどのショットを打ってくるのか分かりません。彼と対戦するのはとても難しい。彼は毎回違うショットを打ってくるし、常に全てのショットを使ってきます。いつも彼には勝っているけれど、３セットマッチの時はいつも３セットまでいっています。今回は５セットで勝ちました。サントロと対戦するのはいつもとても難しい、いつもね。

Q：試合の中でとてもフラストレーションがあると見えた時がありましたが。
JCF：時々。

Q：何が試合の中に留まらせたのですか？
JCF：第４、第５セットはとても良かったと思います。最初の３セットは少し問題のあった（脚の）外転筋に痛みを感じました。コートの中よりもっと痛かった（試合の苦しさより痛かったということかな）。だから第１、第３セットを失ったとき、少しフラストレーションを感じました。でも今は大丈夫です。第４、第５セットには良くなり、良いプレーが出来るようになりました。第５セットでは素晴らしいサーブを打つことが出来た。それが鍵になったと思います。凄く良いサーブだった。第５セットは全ての自分のサービスで用意に勝てました。毎回、彼のサーブをブレイク出来そうでした。

Q：マリオ・アンチッチを知っていますか？
JCF：彼と対戦したことはありません。ウィンブルドンでフェデラー戦を観ただけです。今日のルザック戦を少し観ました。彼はとても良いサーブを打つし、ベースラインでミスをしていませんでした。ネットに多く出てくるし、タフな試合になるでしょう。

Q：第１セットを失ったのは不当だと思いましたか？
JCF：いいえ、全然、少しも。この試合はとても長かった。僕には良いプレーをしようとする為に戻る多くの時間がありました。そうは感じていません。

Q：今、脚はどうですか？
JCF：大丈夫、大丈夫です。試合前に抗炎症剤を飲んでいますから。痛みは感じません。第１セットで少し感じたけれど、、、（聞き取れず）まだプレーは出来たし、段々いい感じになりました。試合が終わったときは痛みはありませんでした。

Q：いつ頃怪我したのですか？
JCF：前の試合のリスナール戦の最後のゲームで、外転筋に少し痛みを感じました。この２日でよくなるよう努力しました。でも痛みがある状態でこの試合に臨みました。（聞き取れず）抗炎症剤、超音波（って…）、アイシングで痛みなくこの試合を終えることができました。今は大丈夫です。

Q. How difficult was that match for you?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: You can see the score. Was very difficult for me. You know, I think Santoro, you never know which shot he going to hit. It's very difficult to play against him because, you know, he has a different shot every time, and he use every shot all the time.
But, you know, all the time I won against him, always in three sets when it's the best-of-three. Right now I win in five, so always is difficult to play against Santoro, always.

Q. At a time in the match you looked very frustrated.
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Sometimes.

Q. What made you stay in the match?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: I think I stayed very good in the match in the fourth and in the fifth. You know, in the first three set, I felt some pain in my abductor because I had a little bit problems there. You know, I was more pain in my abductor than the court. It was because of this I was a little frustrate all the time when I lose the first and the third.
But right now I'm okay, and I feel better in the fourth and the fifth, I start to play very good, and also I serve unbelievable in the fifth. I think it was the key. I serve very good. I won very easy all my service in the fifth set. You know, I was very close all the time to try to break his serve.

Q. Do you know Mario Ancic?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: I never play against him. I only saw him against Federer when he played in Wimbledon. I saw some part of the match of today against Luzcak. I saw that he has a very good serve, no mistakes from the base of the line, and he goes a lot of times to the net, so is going to be tough.

Q. Did you feel it was unfair to lose the first set?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: No. No, no, no. The match was so long, you know, I have so many times to come back, you know, to try to play good. I never feel this.

Q. How is your leg now?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Is okay. Is okay. Is okay because I take some antiinflammatory before the match. I didn't feel the pain. I feel a little bit in the first set, but when I (inaudible), I still playing in the match, I start to feel better and better. Finally I finish the match without pain.

Q. When did it start to hurt you?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: After the match, in the last game against Lisnard, I felt a little bit of pain in my abductor. I tried to be better and better in these two days before. But I start the match with some pain. With the (inaudible), antiinflammatory, ultrasound and ice, I could finish the match without pain. So now I think is okay.

JCF：はい。ここは好きな大会の一つです。僕にとっては多分ローランギャロスが一番だけれど、ここは２番目に好きです。天気も人も素晴らしい。スタジアムも良いし。ここはとても素晴らしい気分になれる。

Q：ここのサーフェスは貴方のゲームに合っていますね？
JCF：はい。ここは先週のシドニーより少しだけ早い。だからここは良い感じです。

Q：上海での試合（去年のマスターズカップ）は本当に厳しかったと思う。
JCF：はい。

Q：そこから立ち直るのに長くかかりましたか？
JCF：いえ、完全ではないです。この試合を忘れなければなりません。僕はもう少しで勝てた。第５セットは６−４でした。それだけ覚えておくようにします。僕は決勝を戦った。ハードコートで良いプレーをしているし、それだけを覚えておくようにします。そしてそれを良くしようとするだけです。

Q. How do you like this tournament? Do you like it?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yes, it's one of the best. Maybe for me Roland Garros is the first one, and this is the second one. It's wonderful to be here for the weather, for the people. It's really nice, all the stadiums. I feel very wonderful here.

Q. You like the surface, as far as your game?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a little bit less fast of Sydney last week, so I feel very good here.

Q. I thought that match in Shanghai was really rough.
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: Yeah.

Q. Did it take you long to recover from that?
JUAN CARLOS FERRERO: No, not really, you know. I have to forget this match because, you know, I know that I was very close to win, you know, 6-4 in the fifth. It's only this I have to remember, you know. I played the final, and I am playing good in hard court and it's only I have to remember and I have to try to improve it and improve it and that's it.
